AAAS meeting and congressional briefing, Washington DC
The findings of the UK-US Taskforce were presented at a session of the AAAS meeting 2016. The session panel also conducted a briefing on the taskforce findings for US Senate staff.
UK-China workshop, Beijing
GFS collaborated with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in Beijing to hold the UK-China workshop on extreme weather and global food system resilience.
This work compiled and assessed existing sustainability frameworks in agriculture, highlighting the complexity of Integrated Sustainability Assessment methods and the variability in their characteristics.
Taskforce findings were published in four reports: The taskforce Synthesis Report: Extreme weather and resilience of the global food system; Annex A: Climate and global crop production shocks; Annex B: Review of the responses to food production shocks; Annex C: Country Level Impacts of Global Grain Production Shocks.
The network initiates under the auspices of the OECD Global Science Forum with eight signatory countries as full members.
Water use in our food imports
This sub-report details discussions of an interdisciplinary working group, coordinated by GFS and the UK Water Partnership. This report focuses on the issues presented by water availability in food trade, considering risks for different food system stakeholders when obtaining food from overseas in times of increasing global demand for fresh water.

In 2014, GFS established a UK-US Taskforce on Resilience of the Agri-Food System to Extreme Weather Events in collaboration with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Science and Innovation Network (SIN).
Food waste within global food systems
This report provides an independent assessment of the state of knowledge in the area of food waste, exploring waste-related issues in both developing and developed countries, with a particular focus on understanding where new approaches and new research may be instrumental in reducing waste.

Global Food Systems and UK Food Imports: Resilience, Safety and Security
This report details the outcomes of an ESRC Public Policy Seminar discussing the range of factors which affect the stability and resilience of food supply chains in the UK. It highlights how UK food security is inextricably linked to global supply and identifies a set of future research priorities important to ensure UK food imports can be fair, sustainable, resilient and safe.
