GFS Taskforce on Paris-compliant healthy food systems

A new interdisciplinary Taskforce has been initiated to advance thinking on Paris-compliant healthy food systems through a futures mapping exercise. This work will develop a clearer picture of what a Paris-compliant healthy food system might look like in practice, identifying a number of plausible futures, the food system transformation pathways for achieving these scenarios and the associated research and policy challenges.

Policy lab on the determinants of food choice for a healthy and sustainable diet

In March GFS ran a three-day Policy Lab for early career researchers, exploring the biological, social, environmental, physical and economic determinants of food choice in the UK and globally. After a series of expert talks, the delegates were posed the question: considering the different drivers of food choice, what combination of interventions across the food system would have the most impact in encouraging healthier and more sustainable diets?

Supporting connectivity across national food policy

This project will explore connectivity in national-level policy and governance structures that support key UK Government food system objectives, identifying opportunities for greater coordination to optimise decision making processes and provide greater support towards reaching food security goals.

Nexus thinking for food security research

Nexus thinking for food security research

This workshop report identifies interdisciplinary research priorities and areas for cross-sector collaboration, in order to deliver efficient use of natural resources. It conceptualises the linkages between food, water, energy and land for future resource security and the interactions of these four areas, referred to as the ‘nexus’.

An interdisciplinary and cross-sector delegation explored what a food system that better supports health while also being compliant with the Paris Agreement might look like in practice, and mechanisms by which this kind of food system might be realised.
